Day 1 (Arrival)

  • Arrive at L.A. Pengel International Airport, Paramaribo, Suriname
  • Eden Suriname representative provides shuttle from airport to hotel
  • Stay at 4-star hotel, Paramaribo

Day 2

  • Breakfast/Greetings
  • Free time to browse local shops and venues
  • Historic Tour of Paramaribo by Cynthia Mc Leod, Suriname Historian, including: 
    • Mosque Keizerstraat: The largest mosque in the Caribbean and the neighboring
    • Neveh Shalom Synagogue: A 1723 expansive Dutch-Israeli synagogue. (Friendly neighbor to the Mosque Keizerstraat)
    • Fort Zeelandia: A restored 18th century fort
    • Slave Landing: Site where the African ancestors of the Maroons were brought to the country in the 17th and 18th centuries to work as slaves
    • Arya Dewaker Hindu Temple: Opened in 2001 in the heart of the city
    • UNESCO World Heritage Architecture: Historic mansions paralleling the waterfront that appear on this prestigious list
    • Elizabeth Samson’s House: Location for Mc Leod’s book, “The Free Negress Elizabeth”
    • Dinner at a traditional Surinamese Restaurant (ie. Javanese)

Day 3

  • Neotropical Butterfly Farm: One of the biggest butterfly and snake farms in the region
  • Maroon woodcarvers and Amerindian potters: Admire the work of these artisans and make purchases 
  • Colakreek: Relax and swim in the dark colored water known for its healing and rejuvenation properties and named after the Coca Cola drink
  • Stay at 4-star hotel, Paramaribo

Day 4

  • Arrive at eco and cultural resort, Rainforest
  • Historic hike: Learn about the plantation and natural history of the jungle
  • Riverboat  trip: Travel the densely wooded banks of the Suriname River

Day 5

  • Joden Savanna: A Jewish settlement established around 1650 in the jungle along the Suriname River. This is the location of The Cost of Sugar book and movie. Sights include...
    • Synagogue ruins
    • Oldest Jewish cemetery in the western hemisphere
    • Ancient medical wall
  • Enjoy an evening of cultural entertainment at resort
  • Stay at eco and cultural resort, Rainforest

Day 6

  • Jungle hike: Experience the wonder of the rainforest and learn about flora and fauna
  • Brokopondo Lake: A manmade body of water created in 1964
  • Afobaka tour/Nyun Lombe tour: Visit traditional African villages in the rainforest
  • Stay at eco and cultural resort, Rainforest

Day 7

  • Return to Paramaribo
  • Federiksdorp: A former plantation, restored in 2001, on the right bank of the Commewijne River
  • Return to Paramaribo
  • Stay at 4-star hotel, Paramaribo

Day 8

  • Cultural markets: Get a taste of the authenticity and diversity of the culture and interact with Surinamese people
  • Free time to explore the city and shop
